Sink your teeth into a classic Agatha Christie murder mystery with Miss Marple, set in the heart of 1960s village life.
There are colourful characters, enough village gossip to keep you busy for months, the excitement of a glamorous Hollywood star taking up residence at Gossington Hall... and, naturally, a murder or two. Rachel Wagstaff's adaptation of The Mirror Crack'd, directed by Tim Greenwood, is an entertaining whodunnit that keeps you guessing (or perhaps you amateur sleuths may have some ideas?)
The split-stage design works particularly well, allowing the present-day investigation to unfold while cleverly weaving in flashbacks that gradually reveal what really happened.
As I've said before, the Fylde Coast Players excel at casting, and once again they don't disappoint. Rosemary Roe is a delight as Miss Jane Marple, all gentle smiles, knitting needles and quiet observation, while hiding a mind sharper than any detective at Scotland Yard. With Chris Sandiford as Chief Inspector Craddock who is the perfect foil, torn between wondering why this little old lady keeps interfering and realising she invariably gets there first.
With a strong supporting cast, an impressive set and enough twists and red herrings to keep the 'Queen of Crime' Christie fans happy, this is a thoroughly enjoyable evening of local theatre.
